Overview

Employment scam posting fake remote job listings on legitimate job boards including Indeed, LinkedIn, and Facebook Jobs. Positions advertised include data entry, customer service, administrative assistant, and other entry-level remote work.

"Hires" applicants quickly without real interviews—typically just text/email exchanges. Sends fraudulent checks for "equipment purchases" (computer, software, office supplies), instructs victims to deposit the check and forward a portion of the funds to a "vendor" via wire transfer, Zelle, or gift cards.

Checks bounce days later after victim has already sent money. Also harvests SSN, bank account numbers, and other personal information for identity theft. Requests often made under the guise of "payroll setup" or "background check."
